| WORKSHOP 3 SUPPORTING LEARNERS WITH DYSLEXIA Overview The aim of this unit is to give learners a practical view of various learning styles and approaches to support students with Dyslexia by utilising their strengths. This unit will expose delegates to research in the field as well as what may be appropriate in the classroom. Syllabus Outline Supporting dyslexic learners to become aware of their best individual learning strategy. Supporting dyslexic learners to identify ways of transfering this knowledge to other aspects of their learning. Examing the educator's role. Teaching Methods Some units will be delivered through a programme of questioning / reflecting and interactive discussions. Learners will be asked to question their personal learning and thinking strategies then annotate their ideas afterwhich they will engage in group discussions concerning their own personal thoughts and inquiry. Group critiques are important as learners have the opportunity to display and discuss their work with peers. This gives the learner the opportunity to share and also exchange techniques, ideas as well as motivate and encourage each other. Instructional Method Inquiry-based Learning is often used in Science education. In this situation, it is used, amongst other methods, to support learners towards discovering knowledge independently.
