| WORKSHOP 4 GETTING READY FOR HIGHER EDUCATION Overview The aim of this unit is to introduce learners to Higher Education and to methods that may prove useful for Deep Approach Learning. Many learners find the transition to university education difficult as it requires new strategies for Critical Thinking that they may not be aware of. This workshop expands the learners' ideas in this area and introduces a new model to support their learning in Higher Education. Syllabus Outline Examining and identifying critical thinking. Identifying new methods for deploying it. Teaching Methods Some units will be delivered through a programme of questioning / reflecting and interactive discussions. Learners will be asked to question their personal learning and thinking strategies then annotate their ideas afterwhich they will engage in group discussions concerning their own personal thoughts and inquiry. Group critiques are important as learners have the opportunity to display and discuss their work with peers. This gives the learner the opportunity to share and also exchange techniques, ideas as well as motivate and encourage each other. Instructional Method Inquiry-based Learning is often used in Science education. In this situation, it is used, amongst other methods, to support learners towards discovering knowledge independently.
