Our Unique Method

Fetht is an acronym meaning: Focus, Examine, Test, Hypothesise, Transpose.
It is a unique interactive model that has been developed to support Learning,
Problem-Solving & Improving Focus. This model has been developed through
a rigorous academic process since 2004 to current and has been tested on more
than 100 undergraduate and postgraduate students with amazing results as well
as professionals in the fields of education & business.

Research Hypothesis
The academic research of this model focused on Problem-based Learning,
Deep Thinking and Learning & Relevance. The Hypothesis examined how
students:
Utilise a Reflective Journal, clearly outlining
the issues that the journal needs to address.
   Utilise Problem-based Learning, including solving
problems or queries, questioning & decision making.
Utilise Deep Approach Methods that encourage learners to
engage in an appropriate & meaningful learning experience.

Research Approach
The approach to this research encouraged:
   Use of prior knowledge.
   Group related activities & discussions.
Preparing tasks that identify real problems
     from real-life situations.

Problem-based Learning
Utilising prior knowledge with new knowledge:
The aims of this unit required the learner to solve a problem or query
and whilst doing so, to gain professional wisdom through theoretical
as well as practical knowledge in their chosen field.
Learners were asked to test this knowledge by a demonstration of
meaningful practical work that would evidently display their journey,
growth and a rigorous method of questioning and decision making.
Learners were also asked to demonstrate evidence of reflecting on
their re-examination of their design practice and journey of learning
through the method of a ‘Reflective Journal’.

Aims of the Reflective Journal
To help the learner reflect on their initial
      thoughts regarding a specific problem.
To help the learner re-examine prior knowledge
      with new knowledge.
To help the learner keep checks on how
and what is being learnt at any given time.

The Missing Link
Throughout the research we noticed that many learners found it difficult to use
a reflective journal and didn't know how to integrate new knowledge with prior
knowledge. For some, it was also difficult to keep checks on how and what is being
learnt at any given time. Fetht has been developed as a result of this knowledge
and feedback. This model is also used to prepare our workshop materials and
handbooks. Our material supports Deep Learning and Problem Solving by breaking
these down to basic step-by-step processes. The processes we use are simple and
effective and can be used to enhance any working environment.
